Striking and Unusual Plaskon Antique Tube Radio

Ref: RA951

Beautiful Ivory Raymond Loewy designed Colonial "New World" Globe Type 158 is a striking and unusual Plaskon tube radio. Resembling a world globe this 1933 patented this radio is early and very different from other novelty radios of the time.

Circling the globe at its equator is a metal ring with knobs on either side. Above this, at the top, is a decorative brass finial showing the compass directions.  The globe's intuitive design allows it to rotate 180 degrees on its base.

The condition of this rare radio is as close to perfect as can be found very few have survived intact. The fragile Plaskon cabinet and base is in great condition with no cracks, chips, tube burns, or repairs; however it does have with one small hairline on base. The painted maps on the globe are all original and in great condition with only the slightest signs of age.  The radio retains its original knobs, trim, base plate and grille cloths all in great condition. This rare radio is absolutely stunning and would make a fantastic addition to a collection.

Radio measures approximately: 7.5" wide by 17" high by 7.5" deep. This set is sold "as-is + untested", the chassis seems complete; cord is tucked into base. Set is being sold as a "non-working" vintage electronic device that should be gone over by a qualified technician.
