Emerson AX-235 radio known as the 'Little Miracle' in highly marbleized bright green catalin cabinet with green trim. The 1938 Emerson AX-235 Radio 'Little-Miracle' by Emerson Radio + Television is Emerson's first example of a small Catalin table radio that also features a unique louvered insert grill. This rare green or 'Brazilian Onyx' as Emerson referred to is heavily marbleized with tones of green, yellow, clear and brown that add depth to an already beautiful radio. The small size of this radio combined with the great color and matching green trim really makes for a stunning Art Deco radio. The cabinet is in perfect condition with no cracks, chips, tube burns or repairs. This models fragile green plastic grill + knobs which, are prone to deterioration, are original + good condition showing only some mild warp on the grill. The radio's elegant violin shape, sounding cutouts and grille bars that resemble the strings of a violin are unlike any other radio. The 1937 Emerson A-148 radio has to be one of the finest Ingraham cabinets made with it's beautiful book matched veneer, black trim, splined corners, with a graceful lean on its matching cradle. The richness of the all original veneers used by Ingraham have a remarkable of depth of color that is just stunning. This E. Ingraham Company of Bristol, Connecticut made cabinet for Emerson Radio is rarely seen example. Please view all photos to see the incredible workmanship and design of this radio. This example is in wonderful condition having been professionally restored at some point; highlighting the beautiful veneers. Designed in 1946, this radio is comprised of 3 separate catalin pieces setting it apart from other radios of the time. The green cabinet and the front of the cabinet consists of two colors, the green insert grille and the yellow surround, both cast separately which are fastened to the yellow cabinet. It is believed that the front surround + the large attached grill are among the largest cast catalin parts ever made. The beautifully marbleized jade green catalin cabinet is contrasted with the yellow trim. The green Catalin cabinet is heavily marbleized with tones of green, brown, yellow + clear that add depth to an already beautiful radio. Bel Geddes sought to promote American technology, industry, and identity, through the use of the stars-and-stripes design of the radio. This 'Patriot' design in turn helped bolster national pride during the difficult years of the Great Depression. The Climax 'Ruby’ Tear-Drop design model 35 radio is an Art Deco rarity made by the Climax Radio & Television Co out of Chicago, Illinois in 1937. This truly is a spectacular Art Deco streamlined designed radio example that is seldom found especially with the tuning-eye. The graceful yet dynamic styling of this 'tear-drop' cabinet makes a strong Art Deco statement not seen in many radios of the time period. The beautiful striped walnut veneers accentuate the graceful streamlining of the radio that is also highlighted by a black painted base, brass dial and tuning eye escutcheons. Climax Radio definitely produced some great Art Deco radios while they were in business. The radios’ cabinet has a beautiful older restoration that really makes the veneers really stand out on the polished black base. The elusive + striking Philco model UA-52P is an Art Deco beauty unlike any other radio made in late 1930s. This radio incorporates a unique design + construction utilizing a two-piece jet black bakelite and this ivory plaskon cabinet. The Philco UA-52P ‘Transitone’ includes all the fundamental elements of Deco design; designs that are both asymmetrical + geometric, stepped shapes with sharp + curved lines, pushbuttons and perfect proportions. This radio is considered by many to be one of the most Art Deco radios manufactured. The low production numbers and the fragile nature of this model has made them extremely rare + desirable today. The front of the cabinet is consists of two colors, the yellow insert grille and the green surround, both cast separately which are fastened to the yellow cabinet. It is believed that the front surround + the large attached grill are among the largest cast catalin parts ever made. The faintly marbleized yellow catalin cabinet is contrasted with the heavily marbleized jade green trim. The stately size of this radio, the color, and contrasting trim make for a stunning Art Deco radio. Radio cabinet has been hand polished to a beautiful gloss. This radio's beautiful yellow catalin cabinet, grill and knobs are in perfect original condition with no cracks, chips, tube burns, or repairs. The green catalin grill surround and is also free of cracks, chips, or repairs. The plastic dial face is in good original condition with only small signs of age. The masonite back is original to the radio and still retains the original manufacturers sticker. Radio has been well taken care of and only shows some fine scratches consistent with age + careful use. This is a seldom seen radio in excellent condition that would make for a great addition to any radio or Art Deco collection. Radio measures approximately: 13" wide by 8" high by 7" deep. Great 2-Tone Sonora 'Coronet' Catalin Radio
1941 Sonora KM 'Coronet' Radio in yellow catalin with plum catalin trim makes for a great Art Deco radio in a wonderful color combination. This is the only Catalin radio produced by Sonora Radio of Chicago, Illinois. The subtly marbleized Catalin cabinet has beautiful transparency that gives the radio depth. This scarce catalin radio has no cracks, tube burns or repairs to cabinet or trim; however it does have a small chip on the bottom back edge as seen. The radios plum front faceplate, knobs and handle are original to the radio and makes for a nice contrast in color. Dial plastic, water-slide decal and mesh grill cloth are correct replacements. Radio measures approximately: 9" wide by 5.5" wide by 5.25" deep. This set is sold "as-is + untested", the chassis seems complete.
