Deco early Fada 5F60 Catalin radio in faintly marbleized yellow with a beautifully marbleized blue insert grill. This prewar 1936/37 is one of the earliest catalin radio models made and has a simple and distinct cabinet design. This yellow + blue example is all-original and in great condition with a beautiful glossy finish. The blue grill which has taken on a rich blueish-green patina has great yellow marbleizing that gives it depth. This model has come to be known to collectors as the 'Baby Fada' because of its small size. The catalin cabinet retains the factory gloss, the blue trim adds contrast and style to this stunning example. Catalin cabinet, insert grill and fluted knobs are original to the radio and have no cracks, chips, tube burns or repairs. Clear dial plastic cover is a replacement. Striking Art Deco Cobalt Blue Sparton Bluebird Radio
Beautiful original Art Deco Sparton 'Bluebird' cobalt blue mirror model 566 radio designed by Walter Dorwin Teague for the Sparks-Worthington Company from Jackson, Michigan in 1936. The radio, known as the 'Bluebird' is a considered to be a great example of Deco Streamline style. The radio features a 14" cobalt blue mirror disc, with contrasting ebony painted ball feet finished with and 3 chromed bands or 'speed lines' dissecting the circular speaker + dial surround. The symmetric, geometric shapes and accent designs are distinctively art deco in appearance. Radio is in great condition and is free of chips, or cracks to the original cobalt mirror. Mirror has not been re-silvered and shows some signs of age + use that are accentuated by the studio photos. Mirror retains the original felt affixed to the backside. Wood body (not bottom) and ball feet have have been resprayed in ebony paint. Chrome trim and knobs are original to the radio and show mild pitting, scratches. Radio retains the original back panel with 'Bluebird Model 566' stamped in white and grill cloth is also original and in good condition with only some mild staining and sign of use consistent with age and use. Rare Deco Tom Thumb Catalin radio made in the late 1930s by the Automatic Radio Mfg. Co in bright Golden Yellow/Virgin Gold. The 900 series of Tom Thumbs is known to collectors as the 'Deco Model' and is considered to be one of the top catalin radios to be found. The Tom Thumb name is a perfect fit for this radio - as it is one of the smallest radios made of catalin. This model has a design that is unique with the deco grill cutouts, asymmetrical design, and vertical dial scale with center knob. This color if polished back would stay golden yellow and not turn alabaster. Catalin cabinet has no cracks; however it did have a small chip on the left side bottom edge that was filled and can not be seen. Radio cabinet has a tube burn on the top curve of cabinet (common area for burns). The matching bright golden yellow/virgin gold catalin knobs are original to the radio and in perfect condition. Cyarts Plastics, Inc. in Bronx, New York made this 1940s translucent blue colored radio. This model was advertised as the 'Moderne'. The cabinet is not molded but rather fabricated out of sheets of colored Plexon, making for an unusual radio. The radio when plugged in lites-up from the inside, which makes the radio glow. This interesting feature along with the use of different materials makes for a highly unusual and rare Art Deco radio. This example in translucent blue is in great original condition with no chips, burns or repairs; however it does have a tight hairline crack on the bezel and on the top of cabinet that is hard to see. This Cyarts is just a stunning radio. Radio has the original lucite knobs, dial face and masonite back panel. The grill cloth is a period correct replacement of similar pattern. Radio has small scratches consistent with age + use of set. This radio is absolutely stunning and would make a fantastic addition to a collection. Radio measures approximately: 13.5" wide by 7" high by 6" deep. This set is sold "as-is + untested", the chassis seems complete. Set is being sold as a "non-working" vintage electronic device that should be gone over by a qualified technician.
