Emerson BT-245 'Tombstone' Catalin radio in marbleized oxblood red with ivory trim. The oxblood cabinet has marbleizing that really adds depth. The oxblood/raspberry red color is brought out with its contrasting ivory louvered grill + knobs. The tombstone design of this radio combined with the great color really makes for a stunning Art Deco radio. Motorola Catalin Radio 50XC-4 "Circle-Grill" in a beautiful marbleized tortoise brown with translucent tortoise catalin trim. The Motorola "Circle-Grille" model is a magnificent, exquisitely crafted Art Deco radio manufactured in 1940 by Motorola Radio. This Motorola design is considered one of the most appealing sets of its time beautifully designed in the Art Deco Style. The details are unique with its round catalin speaker bezel, scalloped handle, and hexagonal knobs. The cabinet features streamlined ridges that stretch around the case bringing all the elements together. The golden dial face is also decorated with deco numerals and sunburst designs that emanate from a red plastic dial pointer with the letter "M" cast in to it. The tortoise catalin has a deep shine that makes its rich color glow and shows off exceptionally striking, deep and colorful, yellow + orange marbleizing. This radio's beautiful catalin cabinet is in original condition with no cracks chips, tube burns, or repairs. The radio retains its original Translucent Amber catalin trim in perfect condition. The grill cloth is original to the tortoise color radio and has no tears + exhibits a small amount of wear consistent with age. Rare Insert Grill FADA 652 'Temple' Catalin radio in a beautiful stunning blue + butterscotch with incredible marbleizing. The insert grill models rarely show up and are even harder to find in blue...the best color. The green patina this radio has taken on is beautiful - radio has only been lightly polished to a high gloss. The green(blue) colored cabinet has veins of yellow with tones of blue running through it that makes this an incredible example. The yellow grille, knobs and dial bezel adds contrast and style to this stunning example of a FADA Temple model. The model 652 was part of the 1940-1942 radio lineup. This rare blue and yellow FADA 652 is in wonderful condition with no chips, repairs or tube burns. Cabinet does have three very small tight hairlines coming off the corners of the insert grill opening, this is a common occurrence on the rarer insert grill models (difficult to photograph and see in person and when displayed). The original yellow catalin louvered insert grill has one small hairline that is only visible when radio is tilted back; see last photo. Yellow dial surround and gum-drop knobs are original and in perfect condition with no cracks, chips or repairs. Beautiful Sparton radio model 409 cobalt blue mirror deco radio. Designed by Walter Dorwin Teague for the Sparks-Worthington Company from Jackson, Michigan in 1938. The small radio, known as the '7-Sided' is a great example of geometric Art Deco design. The radio features a beveled cobalt blue mirror with contrasting ebony lacquer ribbed feet and reverse silk-screened Deco dial numerals. The symmetrical, geometric shape and accent designs are distinctively art deco in appearance. This is a prime example of a highly sought after Art Deco radio that is matched by no other manufacturer in its flair and presence. Radio is in great all original condition and is free of chips and cracks to the original 2 pieces of mirror. Mirror has not been re-silvered and therefore retains the original gray flock on backside of mirror. Mirrors have some wear consistent with age + use that is accentuated by the flash photographs. The blue trim is heavily marbleized, translucent and awesome looking. The light/medium yellow cabinet has faint clear and lighter yellow marbleizing that add depth. This model GE is one of only two Catalin radios ever manufactured by General Electric and made in 1941. Seldom seen FADA Model 115 Pre-War 'Bullet' Catalin Streamliner in beautiful marbleized translucent Onyx Green and Yellow marbleized trim. This radio's styling epitomizes 1940’s Streamline Art Deco design. Its sleek, rounded lines suggest speed and practicality, hallmarks of streamlined industrial design from those years. The original marbleized yellow trim adds contrast and style to this stunning example of a seldom found Pre-War FADA 115 Bullet model. The model 115 differs from its postwar counterpart, in that it has the smooth 'gumdrop' knobs, a split dial face with what looks like a large Roman numeral through the center of it and a copper foil grill cloth that is installed vertically. The radio, known as the 'Bluebird' is a considered to be a great example of Deco Streamline style. The radio features a 14" cobalt blue mirror disc, with contrasting ebony lacquer ball feet finished with and 3 chromed bands or 'speed lines' dissecting the circular speaker + dial surround. The symmetric, geometric shapes and accent designs are distinctively art deco in appearance. The display plateau is an original Sparton add-on item that was offered at the time of purchase for an additional cost; please see photo of original advertising. The cobalt blue mirror measures the same size as the radio mirror 14" and is the same color. This original Sparton mirror is untouched, free of cracks, chips and has not been re-silvered; so it does show some wear and scratches The black felt on back of mirror plateau is also original. Rare Kadette Blue Plaskon tube radio model H also known by collectors as the 'Gothic' model. This 1931 radio was made by the International Radio Corp. in Ann Arbor, Michigan and is one of the first mass produced plastic radios. The radio is in original, untouched condition, and is just a stunning example of this Kadette model. This extremely rare beauty is in excellent condition with no cracks, tube burns or repairs and all trim pieces are original. It does have a small chip at the on/off toggle switch caused by toggling the switch a common issue with this model and a tiny stress line on the front bottom right, barely visible . The radio still retains the original matching blue molded plaskon back, which has the common minor stress hairline cracks, heat mark and chips. These slight issues in no way detract form the beauty and rarity of this radio, as they cannot be seen from the front of the radio. Radio has the original matching blue plaskon flower knobs and gold toned metal dial scales and tags all in great condition. The light blue original fabric grill cloth on the radio is also in excellent condition with no holes or tears. Silvertone 'Election' Bakelite/Plaskon Radio designed by John R. Morgan
This lavender plaskon Silvertone 4511 'Election' radio is a beautiful example of 1930's Streamlined Machine Age design in plastic. The design includes great rounded edges and molded plastic ridges that travel up and around the radio. The single piece cabinet that can be viewed from all sides is the work of noted industrial designer John R. Morgan. This truly is a rare and striking design for an Art Deco Radio in an even more rare of a color. This model first appeared in the 1936 Sears catalog and won first prize as an object of 'outstanding beauty' in the nationwide Modern Plastics Competition in New York City Note that the cases of this model are extremely fragile, and as a result few appear to have survived. These cases often cracked or became distorted due to the heat of the tubes and the weight of the chassis, which slides in from the bottom. The beautiful lavender colored Plaskon/Bakelite cabinet is in great original condition and retains a beautiful luster. The cabinet has no chips, burns, or repairs. It does have a few tight hairlines and small scuffs/nicks common to Plaskon radios of the time that can be seen in the photos. These in no way detract from this rare radio. Great Example of an Early FADA 53/5F50 Catalin Radio
Great small Fada model 53 / 5F50 Catalin radio in marbleized yellow with a highly marbleized blue grill insert. Wonderful Art Deco model made in 1938 by FADA Radio + Electric Company has a beautiful design and size. This yellow and blue example is all-original and in great condition with a beautiful glossy finish. Blue grill which has taken on a rich greenish-blue patina has intense yellow marbleizing + a beautiful transparency that gives it depth. Catalin cabinet, grill and knobs have no cracks, chips or repairs. This is a great example of an all-original early FADA. The radio measures 7.75" wide by 5.75" high by 4.75" deep. Emerson 744B Mid-Century Radio Beige with Maroon Bakelite
Great 1950s Design Radio
Emerson 744B radio in beige with maroon is one of the most unusual and sought after radios of the 1950s, and was available in numerous color combinations. The colored cabinets are made of Plaskon / Bakelite with contrasting styrene plastic grill and knobs. The radical design with its raised dome shaped top and large front half round dial reminds me of the dashboard out of a vintage 1950's automobile. The 'feet' on the bottom of the face of the radio are very fragile and are often found cracked or altogether broken off....this one has intact feet. The cabinet is free of any cracks, chips, tube burns or repairs. The maroon front and knobs are also damage free and original, the 'feet' are intact. Radio retains the manufacturers sticker affixed to the bottom and the original dial pointer with some light paint touch-up. Radio has some light scratches consistent with age and careful use. This great radio would make a great addition to any radio or Mid-Century collection. Radio measures approximately: 11" wide by 9.25" high by 6.75" deep.
