Uncommon Insert Grill FADA 652 'Temple' Catalin radio in a beautiful Plum/Maroon and Butterscotch Catalin - beautiful + all-original Art Deco radio. Radio model was part of the 1940-1942 FADA radio lineup. The catalin cabinet retains the factory gloss, and the butterscotch trim adds contrast and style to this stunning example of a FADA Temple model. This maroon and yellow FADA 652 has no cracks, chips, nicks, repairs or tube burns. The butterscotch catalin louvered insert grill, dial surround and fluted knobs are original to this radio and in perfect condition with no cracks, stress lines, chips, breaks, burns or repairs. Reverse painted dial glass is an exact replacement for the original one, which often is damaged on this model. Radio retains the original cardboard back panel. Emerson BM-258 Catalin radio known as the 'Big Miracle' in lemony yellow with black trim. Made by Emerson Radio + Television in 1938 the Big Miracle is a slightly larger version of the Little Miracle. The cabinet is a light yellow with faint marbleizing that really adds depth to the cabinet. The light yellow color is brought out with its contrasting black louvered grill + knobs. Seldom Seen Beautifully Marbleized Green Catalin Air King
Seldom seen Air King A-600 'Duchess" radio in green with yellow catalin, is a large radio with a unique design + construction. Designed in 1946, this radio is comprised of 3 separate catalin pieces setting it apart from other radios of the time. The front of the cabinet is comprised of two colors, the green grill and the yellow surround, both cast separately which are fastened to the main green cabinet. It is believed that the front panel + the large attached grill are among the largest cast catalin parts ever made. The green Catalin cabinet is heavily marbleized with tones of green, brown, yellow + clear that add depth to an already beautiful radio. The swirl pattern on the top and right side of cabinet is very different then other examples of this radio. The swirls look like green, borwn and clear "drips". The stately size of this radio, the great color, and contrasting trim make for a stunning Art Deco radio. Radio cabinet has been hand polished to an incredible gloss. This radio's beautiful catalin cabinet is in perfect original condition with no cracks chips, tube burns, or repairs. This deco radio is one model in the line of Fada's streamlined 'Coloradios' and was offered in a choice of four color combinations with red being the most sought after. This cabinet's design is a beautiful example of Machine Age styling. The radio's curved and angular front + side details of varying thickness with strong horizontal lines are reminiscent of the Art Deco architecture of the period. This radio is exceedingly hard to find and is highly sought after by both radio and Art Deco collectors. Rarely Seen Speckled Plaskon 'Bantam' Model
Rare DeWald 'Bantam' Radio in dark raspberry speckled Plaskon with white accents. This 1939 DeWald is rarely seen in this speckled color. Due to the size this tube radio is considered to me a midget size radio Even though midget radios were popular and offered in many color combinations, they have become hard to find in any color combination due to the fragile tiny plaskon cases. This cabinet's design is a beautiful example of Machine Age styling. It has great rounded edges with molded plastic ridges that up the radio, two small feet and an asymmetrical handle. Note that the cases of these sets are extremely fragile, and as a result few appear to have survived. These cases often cracked or became distorted due to the heat of the tubes in such a small plastic cabinet, this one has a perfect red plaskon cabinet and black trim. The beautiful plaskon cabinet and trim retain a beautiful luster. The cabinet has no chips or burns. Cabinet does have a repair to the bottom that is difficult to discern. Ivory plaskon knobs and handle are original to the radio and in great condition. The reverse painted plastic graphic dial face is original and in great condition as well. The Air King 'Skyscraper' Model 52 radio with the Egyptian insert is a true American Art Deco icon. John Sideli in his book "Classic Plastic Radios of the 30's and 40's" called it "one of the most important plastic radios ever made". This ivory plaskon with black trim Air King Model 52 was designed by Harold Van Doren + John Gordon Rideout for the Air King Products Company of New York in 1933. This early model radio constructed of plaskon(an early plastic ), has the rarer Egyptian insert on its waterfall facade and the large deco 'AK" tuning knob. The fragile nature of the Air King radios has made them extremely rare + desirable. Stunning European Version of the Sparton 3-Knob 557 Sled Radio
Rare export version Sparton 457X radio designed by Walter Dorwin Teague for the Sparks-Worthington Company from Jackson, Michigan in 1936. The radio, known as the 'Euro-sled' is a considered to be one of the best examples of Deco Streamline style. The 'European' version differs from the 'US' model with three distinctive features, circular art deco dial face, center tuning knob and a different chassis configuration. The graphic deco circular dial face features the names of the most important European cities of the time. The radio features cobalt blue mirrors on the front, top and left side, with contrasting ebony crystalline finish and 5 chromed bands or "speed lines". The asymmetric, geometric shapes and accent designs are distinctively art deco in appearance. This is a prime example of a highly sought rare version art deco radio that is matched by no other manufacturer in its flair and presence. Wood "sled" base has original ebony lacquer in great original condition with the crystalline finish still visible. Chrome is original with only minor pitting. Chassis still retains original manufacturer's gold sticker affixed to the back designating it a model 457X (X for export). Radio has original power cord with European plug and all British tubes. Radio measures approximately: 18" wide by 8.75" high by 8" deep. This set is sold "as-is + untested", the chassis seems complete. Rare Halson catalin radio model A5 'Dwarf' manufactured in 1938 by the Halson Radio + Television Corp of Meriden, CT. This Halson midget size radio advertisement of "Fits into the palm of your hand" was perfect due to its small size. The Brazilian green onyx catalin cabinet is heavily marbleized with tones of green, yellow, clear and brown that add depth to the luscious catalin cabinet. The small size of this radio combined with the great color makes for a stunning Art Deco radio. The glossy Brazilian green onyx catalin has beautiful marbleizing that really adds depth to the cabinet. Catalin cabinet has a Dan Blake repair on the top left and on the underside of radio. Repairs can only been seen when looking closely for them or by looking on inside of cabinet. Knobs are correct replacements as is the dial face, which is prone to damage. Gold grill cloth is a replacement from the 1930's with a similar pattern to the original. Chassis is not original to this radio but is out of a similar radio + fits perfectly. This is a rare radio that is seldom available in any color combination or condition. Radio measures approximately: 7.25" wide by 4.25" high by 4.75" deep.
