Seldom Seen Climax Teardrop Radio
The Climax ‘Baby Ruby’ Tear-drop radio made in 1937/38 is an Art Deco rarity. Although the styling of this cabinet makes a strong Art Deco statement, the radio is relatively small measuring only 7.7" in height. The tear-drop design is a refreshing, futuristic departure from the heavy ornate cabinets of the time. The cabinets dynamic downward swooping shape evokes movement. The radios’ cabinet has a beautiful older restoration that really makes the striped walnut veneer on the cabinet really stand out on the shiny black base. The brown Bakelite knobs, grill cloth and wood back panel are original to the radio. Dial face is an exact replacement. Incredible Pistachio with Blue Detrola Split-Grille
Rare Detrola 281 catalin 'Split Grille' radio with a marbleized pistachio case and blue(patina'd to green) marbleized trim. Manufactured in 1939 by the Detrola Radio the Split-Grille remains one of the top catalin radios to be found. This cabinet's design is a beautiful example of Machine Age styling with it's great rounded edges + ridges that travel around the base of radio and separate louvered grilles. The radios incredibly translucent + marbleized pistachio cabinet is highlighted by the blueish-green yellow swirled trim. The contrast in color between the bright pistachio cabinet and the bluish-green patina of the trim makes this an exceptional example of a rare Detrola radio. The bright pistachio catalin cabinet has a deep shine, rich color, glow and also has exceptionally, brown, clear + yellow marbleizing that adds dimension to the radio. The original split-grilles and fluted knobs have taken on a wonderful bluish-green patina over time. Radio retains the original correct chassis, correct gold textured dial, "Detrolascope" antenna/back panel with manufactures sticker and the original shortwave ivory knob on back of chassis. The oatmeal/light yellow Motorola catalin radio model 50-XC-3 'Circle-Grill' is a magnificent, exquisitely crafted Art Deco radio. Manufactured in 1940 by Motorola Radio also known to collectors as the "Circle Grille". This Motorola design is considered one of the most appealing sets of its time beautifully designed in the Art Deco Style. The catalin has a deep shine that makes its light yellow/oatmeal color glow + show off exceptionally striking, yellow and brown marbleizing, which, makes it stand out from other Catalin radios. The details are unique with its round Catalin speaker bezel, scalloped handle, and hexagonal knobs. The cabinet features streamlined ridges that stretch around the case bringing all the elements together. The golden dial face is also decorated with deco numerals and sunburst designs that emanate from a red plastic dial pointer with the letter "M" cast in to it. Beautiful Fada model 700 "Cloud" catalin radio in butterscotch with red trim. The model 700 was made starting in 1946 by the FADA Radio & Electric Co. This model was one of three new designs for the postwar period. The original butterscotch catalin, which has taken on a beautiful patina with age and is highlighted with the bright red trim. The shiny butterscotch cabinet has no cracks, chips, burn marks, or repairs. It is uncommon to find a Fada model 700 in perfect condition; they are prone to damage. The red swirled plastic handle and knobs are original to the radio and are in perfect condition. This set retains its original reverse painted dial plastic and masonite back. Scarce 'Air-Cruiser' Finned Deco Radio
Rare Pacific 'Air Cruiser' Radio model 100 in original condition. Designed in 1936 by Joseph Price for the Pacific Radio Corporation out of Chicago, Illinois. This among the most streamlined Art Deco radios to be found. The design is a refreshing, futuristic departure from the heavy ornate cabinets of the time. The cabinet is a dynamic downward swooping shape accentuated by five lateral side fins that evoke movement. The set has a great 'sailing ship' dial which only adds to its exciting design making the radio look like it is in motion, almost "cruising" along. Only the 3rd example that I have ever seen and the only one I have owned. The cabinet finish, brown bullet shaped knobs, brass bezel + "Air Cruiser" tag are all original to the set. The beautiful large 'sailing ship" dial face was expertly recreated due to damage caused by the pilot lamps heat. Original dial will be included with the radio. Designed in 1946, this radio is comprised of 3 separate catalin pieces setting it apart from other radios of the time. The front of the cabinet is comprised of two colors, the green grill and the yellow surround, both cast separately which are fastened to the main green cabinet. It is believed that the front panel + the large attached grill are among the largest cast catalin parts ever made. The green Catalin cabinet is heavily marbleized with tones of green, brown, yellow + clear that add depth to an already beautiful radio. The swirl pattern on the top and right side of cabinet is very different then other examples of this radio. The swirls look like green, borwn and clear "drips". Rarely Seen Speckled Plaskon 'Bantam' Model
Rare DeWald 'Bantam' Radio in dark raspberry speckled Plaskon with white accents. This 1939 DeWald is rarely seen in this speckled color. Due to the size this tube radio is considered to me a midget size radio Even though midget radios were popular and offered in many color combinations, they have become hard to find in any color combination due to the fragile tiny plaskon cases. This cabinet's design is a beautiful example of Machine Age styling. It has great rounded edges with molded plastic ridges that up the radio, two small feet and an asymmetrical handle. Note that the cases of these sets are extremely fragile, and as a result few appear to have survived. These cases often cracked or became distorted due to the heat of the tubes in such a small plastic cabinet, this one has a perfect red plaskon cabinet and black trim. The beautiful plaskon cabinet and trim retain a beautiful luster. The cabinet has no chips or burns. Cabinet does have a repair to the bottom that is difficult to discern.
