Rare and beautifully marbleized oxblood red case with butterscotch trim Catalin DeWald model A-501 "Lyre" is a magnificent, exquisitely crafted Art Deco radio. Manufactured circa 1940s by DeWald Radio Mfg Corp, out of New York. This stunning model has to be one of the most musically inspired radio designs and because of this has become known to collectors as the "Lyre" or "Harp" DeWald. The Catalin has a deep shine, rich color, and glow and also has exceptionally striking yellow and orange colorful marbleizing that looks like veins of fire running through the cabinet. The radio is in original, untouched condition, and is just a stunning example of this DeWald model. This beautiful set is in great condition with no cracks, chips, tube burns or repairs. The butterscotch pinwheel knobs are original to the radio. The radio retains its original reverse painted curved dial glass also in excellent condition + the gold herringbone pattern grill cloth shows only a small amount of wear. Emerson AX-235 "Little-Miracle" Catalin Radio in a rare highly marbleized lapis lazuli blue. Manufactured in 1938 by Emerson Radio + Television this is Emerson's first example of a small Catalin table radio that also features a unique louvered insert grill. This stunning radio has taken on a beautiful rich bluish-green patina which is only accentuated by the streaks of yellow that run throughout the cabinet adding depth to a great radio. The small size of this radio combined with the great color and contrasting trim really makes for a stunning Art Deco radio. The beautiful Lapis Lazuli cabinet was professionally repaired by Dan Blake and has been in my personal collection. Repair can only be detected when looking at inside of cabinet. This models fragile ivory plastic grill + knobs that are prone to deterioration have been replaced with correct replacements. Rare prewar Fada model 53 / 5F50 Catalin radio in maroon with yellow insert grille + knobs. Wonderful Art Deco model made in 1938 by FADA Radio + Electric Company has a beautiful design and size. This Merlot + Yellow color combination is seldom found in the FADA 53 model. Radio has a beautiful gloss to the Catalin cabinet and trim. All lemon yellow marbleized trim is original to radio, grill has a small hairline that can barely be seen in between the louvers. The maroon cabinet was professionally repaired by Dan Blake over 10yrs ago. Repairs can only been seen when looking closely for them or looking at inside of cabinet. SONY TR-78 Transistor Radio Prototype / Sales Sample - Marked "Sample Only"
Radio acquired from the family of an employee of Agrod in New York
Sony TR-78 Transistor Radio rare sales sample or prototype model. Radio acquired from the family of an employee of the Agrod Company in New York who was the exclusive U.S. importer for all Sony radio + microphone products starting in 1957. This TR-78 was shipped to Agrod by Sony as a sales sample of a radio that was being considered for the US market - this model radio was never made available as far as we can tell. We have looked + have been unable to find reference to this model on Sony collectors websites and else where. This rare radio is faintly marked on the rear "Sample Only" and "Property of...". Cabinet is ivory plastic that is factory painted a pink/rose color - most all plastics that are molded the dye is introduced into the melted plastic and blended during the molding process the color is throughout the plastic this cabinet was painted, further identifying it as a sample or prototype. Radio retains original tag on the back stating model # as TR-78 - Seven Transistor All Wave that is somewhat faded but can still be read. Radio does have some damage + wear as seen in photos, one grill bar is cracked. Chassis seems complete except for the lack of speaker. All parts on radio seem original and correct. Rare Chocolate Brown Catalin RCA Victor "Tuna Boat" - Very Few Known
Extremely rare Chocolate Brown highly swirled RCA 66X Series Catalin radio - this is one of only a few known examples in this color know to exist to this date. Known to collectors as the "Tuna Boat", this Catalin cabinet from the 1945 RCA 66X series of radios has the distinction of being the largest Catalin radio ever manufactured. This is a radio needs to be displayed with adequate lighting in order to show off the splendid color and marbleizing that it has. The brown swirled Catalin cabinet is heavily marbleized with tones of white, light yellow + dark brown that add depth to an already rare radio. Radio cabinet has been hand cut/polished by Decophobia and has an incredible gloss to it. Radio cabinet is in perfect condition with no cracks, chips, tube burns or repairs. The 3 Dark Brown Bakelite Knobs are original to the radio. The gold fabric grill cloth is original to the radio and shows some wear consistent with age. This Machine Age Marbleized Beetle Plastic Detrola "Split-Grille" 274 Tube Radio is one of the most elusive designs that Detrola ever produced. This example is made of "Beetle" Plaskon with ivory Tenite knobs and "Split-Grilles". This set is highlighted by beautiful green + orange marbleizing. This cabinet's design is a beautiful example of Machine Age styling with it's great rounded edges + molded plastic ridges that travel around the base of radio and separate louvered grills. The cabinets of these sets are extremely fragile, and as a result few appear to have survived. The cases and trim often crack or became distorted due to the heat of the tubes. The beautiful + brightly colored Marbleized Beetle Plastic cabinet is in good original condition. It has a few small hairline cracks that do not detract from the beauty and rarity of this set. Rare Catalin DeWald 561-2 "Jewel or Outline-Grill" Radio in butterscotch with marbleized Blue trim. One of only 3 Catalin radios ever manufactured by DeWald and made in 1939. In 27 years of collecting this is the only one in this color combination that I have owned and only the 4th one I have seen. This radio is about as rare as it gets in the Catalin genre. The butterscotch Catalin has a deep shine + original factory gloss, rich color and glow, which, is highlighted with the contrasting blue(patina to green) trim. The marbleized trim is all original with no cracks, or repairs + has taken on a beautiful rich green patina. Blue Plaskon RCA 9-SX "Nipper" with Beetle Plastic Trim - Beautiful
Seldom Seen Model in a Great Color Combo
Great Machine Age RCA Victor Radio known as the "Nipper" 9-SX in bright blue Plaskon with a Beetle Plastic grill. This 1939 model is an incredibly well designed streamlined tube radio. This little radio is constructed of 3 separate Plaskon Bakelite pieces, first is the Plaskon body, second is the wrap around deco grill with the great RCA Victor logo engraved vertically on the rounded corner, and third + lastly is the top Plaskon stepped trim piece. Even though these midget sized radios were popular in their time and offered in many color combinations, they have become hard to find in any combination due to its fragile Plaskon case. This radio is as close to perfect as can be found and has the original blue knobs + is free of any cracks, tube burns or repairs to the trim or body. Fragile Dial is orignal and in great condition, radio retains original back panel + rear blue knob. This radio has a few very small hairlines common to plaskon radios. Made by General Television Radio Corp of Chicago, Illinois, model 591 is the only Catalin model made by the company. The cabinet on the Catalin GTV has great swirls + clear that add depth to the radio. The gold face features a stunning textured deco pattern, with a red Saturn shaped station indicator, beneath which "General Television" appears.
