Rare Art Deco Metal Case Radio with Silhouetted Lady's Face
Rare Stewart Warner Radio R108X "Lady's Head" in jet black with silver accents. Manufactured in 1933 by the Stewart Warner Corporation. This small metal case radio is among the rarest of Art Deco radios to be found. The Silhouette on the front of the radio is the embodiment of the roaring 1920s flapper style. The "Lady's Head" radio was made in silver/black or the minimally produced black/silver making it the rarest. Radio is untouched and in great condition showing some signs of wear, corrosion to the paint consistent with age + use. The silver round painted knobs as well as is the silver metal mesh grill cloth are original to the radio. Radio is complete with original metal back panel and Alemite Corporation sticker still affixed to the bottom of cabinet + rear of the chassis. Philip Collins features an example of this radio on page 16 of the book "Radios of The Golden Age". Measures approximately: 7.62" wide x 7" high x 4.5" deep. Spectacular Bright Tomato Red Catalin Motorola Radio
Rare Catalin Motorola Model 50XC-1 "Circle-Grill" radio in an incredible highly marbleized tomato red with translucent yellow catalin trim. This is a magnificent, exquisitely crafted Art Deco radio manufactured in 1940 by Motorola Radio also known to collectors as the "Circle Grill". This Motorola design is considered one of the most appealing sets of its time beautifully designed in the Art Deco Style. The details are unique with its round catalin speaker bezel, scalloped handle, and hexagonal knobs. The cabinet features streamlined ridges that stretch around the case bringing all the elements together. The golden dial face is also decorated with deco numerals and sunburst designs that emanate from a red plastic dial pointer with the letter "M" cast in to it. The atalin has great shine that makes its rich color glow and shows off exceptionally striking, deep and colorful, yellow and clear marbleizing. This radio's beautiful catalin cabinet is in perfect original condition with no cracks, chips, tube burns, or repairs. The radio retains its original yellow Catalin trim in perfect condition also with no cracks, chip, burns or repairs. The grill cloth is original to the radio + has no tears or stains with only a small amount of wear consistent with age. Clear dial plastic is an exact duplicate as original one had shrunken + yellowed. This Art Deco radio would make a great addition to any collection. This one owner radio is super clean, beautiful and has never had the trim removed from cabinet and therefore retains the original glue on insert grill and bezel. This is the only original pre-war 115 insert grill model I have ever owned or seen. The model 115 differs from its postwar counterpart, in that it has the smooth "gumdrop" knobs, and a split dial face with what looks like a large Roman numeral through the center of it. The all-original bright marbleized red trim adds contrast and style to this stunning example of a seldom found Pre-War FADA 115 Bullet model. Seldom Seen John Vassos Designed Deco Catalin Radio
Beautiful highly marbled Green RCA Catalin 9-TX5 "Little Nipper II" Radio. This Art Deco model is unusual with its grooves that wrap-around cabinet. The Brazilian green onyx catalin cabinet is heavily marbleized with tones of green, yellow, and brown that add depth to the luscious catalin cabinet. The design of this model has been attributed to industrial designer John Vassos one of the designers for RCA. The small size of this radio combined with the great color and contrasting trim really makes for a stunning Art Deco radio. Radio cabinet has been hand polished and has an incredible gloss to it. Stunning Kadette Art Deco, Beetle Plaskon, tube radio model H also known by collectors as the "Gothic" model. This 1931 radio was made by the International Radio Corp. in Ann Arbor, Michigan and is one of the first mass produced plastic Bakelite radios. The radio is in original, untouched condition, and is just a stunning example of this Kadette model. Its heavy green and orange marbleizing highlights this set. This extremely rare beauty is in excellent condition with no cracks, tube burns or repairs and all trim pieces are original. It does have one shall chip at the on/off toggle switch caused by toggling the switch a common issue with this model. The radio still retains the original matching molded beetle back, which has the common minor stress hairline cracks and chips. Art Deco Cobalt Blue Sparton 409GL Radio by W.D. Teague
Sparton radio model 409-GL with cobalt blue mirror. Designed by Walter Dorwin Teague for the Sparks-Worthington Company from Jackson, Michigan in 1938. The small radio, known as the "7-Sided" is a great example of geometric Art Deco design. The radio features a beveled cobalt blue mirror with contrasting ebony lacquer ribbed feet and reverse silk-screened Deco dial numerals. The symmetrical, geometric shape and accent designs are distinctively art deco in appearance. This is a prime example of a highly sought after Art Deco radio that is matched by no other manufacturer in its flair and presence. Radio is in great all original condition and is free of chips and cracks to the original 2 pieces of mirror. Mirror has not been re-silvered and therefore retains the original grey flock on backside of mirror. Mirrors have some wear consistent with age + use that is accentuated by the flash photographs. Wood cabinet has the original light grey flock finish in great original condition with some light signs of age. The black Bakelite knobs are orignal to radio. Manufactured in the 1940's by ADDISON INDUSTRIES LIMITED in Toronto, Canada also known to collectors as the "Courthouse" or "Large" Addison. The catalin has a deep shine, rich color, glow and also has exceptionally striking yellow marbleizing that add dimension to the radio. The radio is in original, untouched condition, and is just a stunning example of this Addison model. This beautiful set is in great condition with no cracks, chips, tube burns or repairs. Radialva "Super-Boum" Radio in Brown Bakelite + Ivory
Unique Circular Design French Radialva "Super-Boum"
Seldom seen Radialva "Super-Boum" Radio in brown Bakelite with contrasting Ivory Tenite grill + knobs. The "Super Boum" is a unique round shaped radio manufactured by Radialva in France circa 1940's. It is one of the most prized Bakelite radios from the French vintage radio market that is rarely available in the States. The design was inspired by the British "Ekco" radio in the forties, and the radio's high price and radical design with its bulls-eye grill was not well received by the public. Less than 2,000 Super Boum's were sold making this an extremely rare find. The unique styling and great condition would make this radio a truly beautiful and unique addition to any radio collection. This is an interesting design that uses two similar, equal sized pieces of Bakelite that come together in the center, secured by plastic screws. The chassis is inserted in the center and then enclosed by two pieces of Bakelite, like a suitcase. This French made Radialva radio with its circular design, clam-shell(interlocking) cabinet design + concentric circle grill is unlike any other radios of the time that makes for an absolutely stunning radio. The original half circle gold colored plastic dial face with names of cities around Europe is in good condition. This particular example is a stunning radio in excellent original condition with no cracks, chips, burns, or repairs to the cabinet or trim. The brown Bakelite cabinet has a wonderful natural gloss to it. This "Super Boum" has been well taken care of and only has some small scratches/marks consistent with light use. The Tom Thumb name is a perfect fit for this radio - as it is one of the smallest radios made of catalin. This model has a design that is unique with attached Catalin feet, an oval-shaped dial face, Deco grill cutouts, and vertically positioned knobs. This faintly marbleized yellow example is all original + in great condition with a beautiful glossy finish. Catalin Cabinet, knobs and feet have no cracks, chips, tube burns or repairs. The two perfect catalin feet have the original blue painted stripes. Radio retains the original gold manufacturers label affixed to the original back panel. Dial plastic is original to the radio as it the gold grill cloth. Water-slide decal is a correct replacement. This is a great example of an all original early + rare Tom Thumb catalin radio. This small radio measures approximately: 7.5" wide by 5.9" high by 4.25" deep. This set is sold "as-is + untested", the chassis seems complete.
