Ebony Sparton 517-B Radio Walter Dorwin Teague Art Deco Design
Rare Ebony Lacquer with Chrome Trim Sparton Radio
Rare 1936 517-B Sparton "Cube" with the ebony lacquer finish + chrome trim is seldom a seen Art Deco radio. Manufactured by the Sparks-Withington Company of Jackson, Michigan and was the creation of renowned industrial designer Walter Dorwin Teague. This model radio was one of three finishes available in 1936: wood, ivory and ebony. Of the three, the 517-B in ebony is the only one that was available with chrome stripes and the ribbed knobs also with chrome inserts, a feature that in my opinion sets it quite apart from all the other cube radios of the period. This is truly a striking radio to look at. Radio retains the original manufacturers label affixed to chassis showing the model # as 517-B, the original grill cloth in wonderful condition with only minimal wear consistent with age. This radio has been carefully restored back to its original state, black lacquer has a beautiful sheen. The 3 chrome strips are orignal to the radio and are in very good original condition with light surface wear consistent with age and use. The Art Deco dial scale has some mild fading on the red numerals, which is common on this model. Knobs are original to the set + are the same ones used on other Teague designed models such as the mirror 557 and 558 models. Speaker is the original "Sparton Reproducer". Radio measures approximately 13.5" wide x 12.5" high x 9" deep. This set is sold "as-is + untested", the chassis seems complete. Set is being sold as a "non-working" vintage electronic device that should be gone over by a qualified technician.

Zenith Model 812 Art Deco 1935 Radio - The 811 Export Version
Rare Zenith 812 Export Version Radio with Bold + Radical Deco Styling
The curved + asymmetrical design of the Zenith 812 (The 811 Export Version) tombstone radio makes for an ultra rare + unusual model that is a stunning example of Art deco design. This asymmetrical design was radical in a time when rectangular tombstone radios and furniture-like consoles were stylish and loved by all, thus making this model an elusive find today. Also adding to the rarity is the low production number of 1,154 units and a relatively fragile construction of the cabinet. There are a few differences between the 811 (chassis 5609) + the 812 export model (chassis 5608): The model 812 dial scale is shown entirely in meters while the model 811 displays frequency in kilocycles, see close-up of dial. Other features of this set include: the introduction of Triple Filtering and reception of domestic + foreign broadcasts. This radio retains the original finish in very nice condition with some signs of use consistent with age. The book-matched veneer on the front of the radio makes a 'V' design that further intensifies the Art Deco elements in the radios design. The Cabinet is structurally sound. All components are original including the correct speaker (SPEC.3448//49 87//3000 OHMS), wood back panel(with serial #), grille cloth + wooden knobs. Chassis retains the original metal and paper tags with model, serial number and safety info attached to the back of chassis. Cabinet has the manufactures paper label inside the cabinet. More photos of the radio are available by request. This incredible radio would make a great addition to a any high-end radio or Art Deco collection. Radio measures approximately: 17.25" High by 12" Wide by 8.5" Deep. This set is sold "as-is + untested", the chassis seems complete, the plug is European. Emerson 511 "Moderne" Green Bakelite Raymond Loewy Designed Mid-Century Radio
Great Gold + Black Swirls
Retro Raymond Loewy Designed Emerson 511 in Pistachio Green Plaskon with great gold marbling made in 1947. The radio is also refereed to as the "Moderne" and is a highly collectible eye-catching radio. The design is credited to famous industrial designer Raymond Loewy, the designer of Deco locomotives, Studebakers, and many well-known corporate logos. The radio features a design unlike any other. The clear plastic bubble dial cover floats over the gold painted metallic grill, which covers much of the front. A block of ivory Plaskon, whose back has a recess for the pilot light, anchors the dial cover to the cabinet at its top. When you turn on the radio, the illuminated block sheds a soft light over the dial, a beautiful effect in a darkened room. Radio has a cleverly designed molded handle on the top that also served to ventilate the set, as this set is closed on all sides and is designed to be viewed from all angles. The radio is in original, untouched condition, with a beautiful and natural gloss and is just a great example of this Raymond Loewy Emerson radio. The beautiful and brightly colored marbleized pistachio green Plaskon Bakelite cabinet is in great original condition, with no chips, major cracks, burns or repairs. All the case has are two very small hairlines. These hairlines in no way detract from the beauty of this set. The fist hairline can be seen to the left of the logo by speaker grill, a common area for this set to have a hairline. The second is a small 3/4" brownish line in the left side of the radio towards the bottom that can barely be seen even when looking for it. The original plastic dial bubble has a small amount of warp and yellowing, normal for this model. The gold painted metal perforated mesh grill has a few small areas of oxidation/wear. Radio retains the original ivory Plaskon knobs and manufacturers sticker on the bottom and inside of case. Radio measures approximately: 11.5" wide x 7.5" high x 6.5" deep. This set is sold "as-is + untested", the chassis seems complete. Set is being sold as a "non-working" vintage electronic device that should be gone over by a qualified technician.
