American Art Deco Red Plaskon Detrola "Pee-Wee" Model 218
Designed by George W. Walker
This George W. Walker designed Machine Age Bakelite Detrola "Pee-Wee" 218 midget tube radio is one of the most popular designs that Detrola ever produced. Even though this midget radio was popular in its time and was offered in many color combinations, it has become hard to find in any combination due to its fragile tiny case. This example is made of red Plaskon/Bakelite with black Tenite knobs and streamlined feet. Walker also designed automobiles for the Ford Motor Co., and numerous other products for companies including Admiral Radios, and Willys Trucks. Some of his most recognizable designs that he is credited for are 1955 Thunderbird, and some of the 1949 Ford and the 1950 Lincoln designs. This cabinet's design is a beautiful example of Machine Age styling. It has great rounded edges and molded plastic ridges that travel around the radio. Note that the cases of these sets are extremely fragile, and as a result few appear to have survived. These cases often cracked or became distorted due to the heat of the tubes in such a small plastic cabinet, this one has a perfect red Plaskon cabinet and black trim. The beautiful red colored Bakelite cabinet is in great original condition and retains a beautiful luster. The cabinet has no cracks, chips, burns, or repairs. Radio retains the original black pressed cardboard back in great condition along with the SW/BC band control knob. This small radio measures approximately: 6.5" Wide by 4.5" High by 4.25" deep. This set is sold "as-is + untested", the chassis seems complete. Set is being sold as a "non-working" vintage electronic device that should be gone over by a qualified technician.

Emerson BD-197 "Mae West" Art Deco Sakhnoffsky Designed Radio
Striking Design on This Rare and Beautiful Mae-West Radio
This Art Deco Emerson "Mae West" radio was designed by Count Alexis De Sakhnoffsky. This provocative design using circular shaped wood was radical in a time when rectangular tombstone radios and furniture-like consoles were stylish. No other radio made by Emerson compares to the Mae West in design. This is what makes the BD-197 quite rare today and would be the highlight of any radio collection. Radio's cabinet was made for Emerson Radio by Ingraham of Bristol, Connecticut This example is in excellent condition and has been cosmetically restored at one time. The finish has a lustre to it and a beautiful rich color with very few imperfections/dings in the wood. The swirled Tenite dial + speaker bezels with the famous Mae West cones are in great condition with very little warpage and also have no cracks or repairs. The cone over the dial(right) has a little scuff mark on the tip which does not detract from the beauty of the radio. The original plastic dial lens has no hazing and very little yellowing and wood knobs are original. The blue, red and gold dial is colorful and looks great. The grill cloth is original and in good condition with normal discoloration, age wear and one dime sized area that is worn through. This set is sold "as-is + untested", the chassis seems complete. Set is being sold as a "non-working" vintage electronic device that should be gone over by a qualified technician
